Hello everyone and welcome to my newsletter Sonic Breadcrumbs!
My name is Corbin Reiff and I’m a music journalist based out of Seattle. You may recognize me from some the pieces I’ve written for Rolling Stone, Billboard, Uproxx, The Ringer, Pitchfork, Spin, Complex, Noisey, Guitar World, yada, yada, yada.
You might also know me as the author of ‘Total F*cking Godhead: The Biography Of Chris Cornell’. Or you might know me as the guy on Twitter who asks random questions about whatever and post memes about Neil Young. Then again, you may have no idea who I am at all. I mean, who am I to presume, right?
I recently decided to start this newsletter as an outlet to write about, well…whatever I find interesting! Music mostly, of course. I’ve done a lot of reading and listening and talking to folks that’s lead me down a ton of different interesting paths in my eight years as a music journalist and I thought I might take you along with me as I continue the journey.
Frankly, there’s a lot of crazy stuff going down in the world right now and if you’re anything like me, music has always been a vital distraction from [gestures wildly]. In the grand scheme of things, is it important that you know that Eddie Vedder’s alter-ego is “Wes. C. Addle?” Or that the Chicago band Ganser made one of my favorite albums of 2020? Probably not. Did that knowledge make your day a little better? I certainly hope so!
A couple of years back I had a weekly column over at Uproxx called Listen To This Eddie that will be a little similar to this newsletter, but you can expect a broader range of topics and genres covered here in a variety of different styles: Lists, interviews, narrative pieces; reviews of new albums and retrospectives of older ones. Whatever keeps things interesting. I’ll also open this up for a few mailbag posts from time to time to field your questions and hear more about what you might like to read in this space.
I plan on sending a new installment of Sonic Breadcrumbs out on a weekly basis, typically on Thursdays. For the next two months at least, I’m keeping the newsletter entirely free, but there will be a subscription tier put into place after that to keep this operation afloat. You’ll also want to check into this space to keep up with updates on some cool projects I have coming down the pike.
In the meantime, I’d be super, super grateful if you spread the word and told a friend or two about Sonic Breadcrumbs. Don’t forget to smash that subscribe button and please enjoy this extremely rare footage of Soundgarden performing at their invite-only, Badmotorfinger record release party back in 1991. 🤘
SOUNDGARDEN!!! Absolutely amazing. Got to see them twice. Always blown away by how each member is a powerhouse of talent and all of them together is legendary.
